Ice skates are boots with blades attached to the bottom, used to propel oneself across a sheet of ice. The first ice skates were made from leg bones of horse, ox or deer, and were attached to feet with leather straps. A pole with a sharp metal spike was used for pushing the skater forward. According to a study done by Federico Formenti, University of Oxford, and Alberto Minetti, University of Milan, Finns were the first to develop ice skates some 5,000 years ago from animal bones. [2] This was important for the Finnish populations to save energy in harsh winter conditions when hunting in Finnish Lakeland. [3] [4] The first skate to use a metal blade was found in Scandinavia and was dated to 200 C. E. and was fitted with a thin strip of copper folded and attached to the underside of a leather shoe. In about 1859, James A Whelpley of New Brunswick, Canada developed a skate that was well suited for long distance skating on the bays and lakes of southern New Brunswick. [5]It was called the Long Reach skate, after Long Reach, a section of the Saint John River, where the Whelpley family operated a factory manufacturing the skates. The skate had a steel blade about 40 cm long, on a wood platform that was attached by leather straps to normal boots. [6] The Whelpley family continued to make the Long Reach skates in New Brunswick, until about 1886, when the factory was moved to Keene, New Hampshire. Modern ice skate blades are not shaped like knives. The bottom of the blade has a crescent-shaped hollow, creating two sharp edges on each skate. Ideally, the two edges of a blade are parallel, but poor maintenance practices, such as improper sharpening or lack of consistent sharpening, can often result in oblique edges. These “bad” edges can affect skating ability significantly. The depth of this hollow is known as the Radius of Hollow (RoH). The Radius of Hollow is typically between 1/4″ and 1″ depending on the type of skates and the user. The optimal depth depends on factors such as the skater’s weight, ability, strength, sporting activity, and (for ice hockey) style of play. The skater uses these edges in different combinations in order to maneuver. When ice skates are sharpened the blade is ground against a template either to restore the hollow or provide a different radius. Speed skates and touring skates, however, have a completely flat bottom. There is no hollow, only a squared off bottom with 2 edges. This improves glide time by not cutting into the ice. Inexpensive skates for recreational skaters usually resemble either figure skates or hockey skates, but recreational ice skates resembling inline skates with a molded plastic boot are also available. These recreational skates are the form which can be rented from ice rinks for beginners who do not own their own skates. In the non-American English-speaking world they are sometimes called ‘death wellies’ by skaters who own their own equipment because of their appearance and their reputation for giving people blisters. There are five main types of ice skates, the figure skate, the hockey skate, the bandy skate, the racing skate and the touring skate. Figure skates are used in the sport of figure skating. They have toe picks on the front of the blade, which are usually made out of aluminum or steel. The toe pick has a variety of uses, but is most commonly used for certain jumps in figure skating, such as the Lutz jump and toe loop. Figure skating boots are typically made of several layers of leather and the leather is very stiff to provide ankle support. To lace them together you tie it just like sneakers. <a onClick=”javascript:pageTracker. _trackPageview(’/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www. himfr. com/buy-the_invisible/”>the invisible</a>Hockey skates are used for playing the games of ice hockey and ringette. The boot is generally made of molded plastic, leather (often synthetic), and ballistic nylon. Skates used in competitive hockey rarely use molded plastic for the upper boot, as this results in limited mobility. Goalie skates are used by Goaltenders in Ice hockey. They are constrctued the same way as forwards skates are but are cut lower (similar to bandy skates). The blade is also set into a different kind of holder with a protective shell, called a cowling, this provides more protection then of a forwards skate. Bandy skates are used for playing the games of bandy and rink bandy. The boot is generally made of leather (often synthetic). The boot is lower than the hockey version, often not covering the ankles. All bandy skates are designed such that they will not cause injury to an opponent. The blade is generally an inch longer than the hockey skates, allowing for higher speeds. The Russian bandy skates have an even longer blade and a very low cut shoe. Racing skates, also known as speed skates, have long blades and are used for speed skating. A clap skate (or clapper skate) is a type of skate where the shoe is connected to the blade using a hinge. Short track racing skates have a longer overall height to the blade to allow for deep edge turns without the boot contacting the ice. Touring skates (or Nordic skates) are long blades that can be attached, via bindings, to hiking or cross-country ski boots and are used for tour skating or long distance skating on natural ice. The blades are approximately 50 cm long with a radius of curvature (or rocker) of about 25 m. The blades are about 1 mm wide, with a flat cross-section. The length of the blades makes touring skates more stable on uneven natural ice than skates with shorter blades. Since tour skating often involves walking between lakes or around unskateable sections, the fact that the blades can be easily removed from one’s boots is an asset. Although mainly used for non-competitive touring, touring skates are sometimes used in marathon speed skating races on natural ice.

A Nuans name search report is a seven-page report which is generated from the Nuans name search system which compares a proposed name or trade-mark with the database of existing names that have been registered anywhere across Canada. The Nuans name search system is a computerized search system which contains a list of all of the company names, sole proprietorships, partnerships, business names and trade-marks registered in federal, provincial and territorial jurisdictions in Canada. The purpose of the system is to keep track of all names registered across Canada. By comparing the proposed name against the Nuans name search system, any similarity existing between the proposed name and the names in the database, will show up on the Nuans name search report. This will allow you to determine whether you are planning on using a name for your company that is too similar to another name. It is important for your name to be as distinct as possible. Nuans name search reports must accompany articles of incorporation when incorporating a company in the federal, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island jurisdictions of Canada. Some provinces and territories have their own secondary system and they do not except the Nuans name search report. However, it is still advisable to do a preliminary nuans name search through the Nuans system to ensure the name is available. There is no fee for a preliminary nuans name search. The jurisdictions which accept Nuans name search reports are as follows:FederalAlbertaOntarioNew BrunswickPrince Edward IslandThe governments which do not accept reports from the Nuans name search system provide a list of any names that have been registered in their province or territory to the Nuans name search system and these names are added to the Nuans system database. You cannot incorporate a company with a name that is exactly the same as another name already registered. When you go to incorporate a company the government must first know if that name has been taken. In order for the government to ensure that the name is free to use it needs to see a Nuans name search report or similar report depending on the jurisdiction. The report will show the government whether there is an exact name already registered for the proposed name you wish to use. The Nuans name search report is also your way of determining whether there are additional conflicts to your name. The onus will be on you to look over the entire report and make sure you are not proposing to use a name that is even close to another corporate name or trade-mark since the owner of the name could still have a claim against you if your name is too similar and his or her company name has had a large presence in the marketplace for many years. Each jurisdiction that accepts the Nuans Name search report will have its own Nuans report. If you are incorporating an Ontario company you will be required to obtain an Ontario Nuans Name Search report. If you are incorporating a federal company you will be required to obtain a federal Nuans name search report. If you are incorporating an Alberta company you will be required to obtain an Alberta Nuans Name Search report. If you are incorporating a New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island company you will be required to obtain an Altantic Nuans Name Search report. Despite the fact that each of these reports is different, all reports will search the Nuans database system for similar names across Canada. It may seem that if you are registering a company in Ontario and another company in the Northwest Territories has a similar name, that this should not be a problem. With technology as it is today, companies are conducting business across Canada, if not across the World. You will have no idea whether the company with the name that you are proposing may at some time in the future be conducting business in the very province you wish to register in and then there would be a conflict. Further, the Canadian government provides that any company that is registered in any province or territory in Canada can apply to be registered to carry on business in another province or territory. It is therefore very important that your proposed name is distinct and descriptive. Nuans name search reports are not required in Ontario and some other provinces when registering business names or sole proprietorships. In Ontario anyone can register the exact same business name or sole proprietorship as one registered already. However, it is advisable that you do a preliminary Nuans name search report before you register to ensure no one else is using the name regardless. It is always advisable not to use a name that is too similar to another name since this would be a conflict for your business in the long run. Some business names such as “Bell Canada” have a high standing in the marketplace because of the number of years the name has been registered and the number of people who know the name. If you purchase a Nuans Name Search Report and the name you wish to use for your incorporation is on the report, you will not be allowed to incorporate with that name. It is therefore important that you do a preliminary Nuans name search first in order to ensure before hand that the name is free. Please note however that preliminary Nuans Name Searches are not fool proof and there is always a chance a conflict will show up on the full Nuans Name Search report that did not come up during the Preliminary Nuans Name Search. You can keep buying full Nuans Name Search reports but it will become costly. It is better that you check the name first with a Preliminary Nuans Name search. You would need to contact a search house in order to have a preliminary name search performed. It does not matter what the jurisdiction is where you live, since the search house can send you the report by email. The names on the report are in order of importance with the first name being the most important. The very first name on the report will be the Proposed Name that you picked. Your Proposed Name is put into the Nuans Name Search System so that anyone else wanting to incorporate a company will know that you have already chosen that name even though you have not yet incorporated your company. The next group of names will be those company names and business names that match your name to some degree in the order of how close they match your name. The next section of the Nuans Name Search Report will show a list of the trade-marks that have been registered that are the closest in spelling to your name. A Proposed Name is a name that is being reserved by the Nuans name Search System. The jurisdictions in Canada that accept Nuans Name Search Reports will not allow a company to be incorporated with a Proposed Name that has been reserved by the Nuans Name Search System. The Nuans name search report is evidence of that reservation. A Nuans report is reserved for three months. If you have not yet had a chance to incorporate your company you can renew the search after or just before the Nuans Name Search report is to expire. If you are not ready to incorporate but you have a great name picked out you may wish to obtain a Nuans name search report to protect anyone else from using the name and then just renew the Nuans name search every three months until you are ready to incorporated. Nuans Search Houses are trained on the best method of performing Preliminary Nuans Name Search reports in order to ensure that the most conflicts to your proposed names can be found prior to ordering a Nuans Name Search Report. If you incorporate a numbered company a Nuans name search report will not be required since the government will provide you with the next number in line. An example of a numbered Ontario company would be a corporation having a name such as “9999999 Ontario Inc. “. A numbered federal company might be a corporation with a name called “9999999 Canada Inc. “. The numbers are given out consecutively. You cannot choose the number for your company. Right from the last week discrimination issues we will move to some more positive things. This spring will be full of anniversaries for one of Canada provinces – New Brunswick. This spring will mark the 90th anniversary of women obtaining the right to vote in New Brunswick elections (April 17, 1919), and the 75th anniversary of women obtaining the right to be a candidate in New Brunswick elections (March 9, 1934). For those who are not familiar with the history of women’s’ right to vote in Canada we’ll take a short look back. The rights for widows and unmarried women were granted in municipal elections in Ontario in 1884 and later provided in all provinces, but it actually left all the married women without that right. The first province to adopt the right for all women to vote was Manitoba in 1916. Two years later Dominion (federal) parliament passed an act giving women the vote in federal elections. Quebec was the last province to adopt this act, it happened only in 1940. A big part of equal rights also came into force on April 17, 1985 with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The battle for this charter started on Valentine’s Day 1981, when more than 1,300 Canadian women, almost spontaneously gathered for a conference in the Parliament buildings. This protest ensured that the Charter of Rights and Freedoms included the rights of women. This was a direct response to the cancellation of planned conference on women and the Constitution by the Trudeau government. The government busy with the Charter feared that additional equality demands would make the difficult process of writing the Charter even more difficult. In response the president of the Canadian Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Doris Anderson, resigned from her post and the women rights activists organized the Valentine’s Day conference. Before 1981 no Supreme Court of Canada judge had ever been a woman and the old Canadian Bill of Rights had not served women well. The new Charter was the opportunity to finally bring in some real equality in Canada, so the stand was really hard. The result itself was great, women really brought in some significant changes into the new Charter. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms brought many important changes. For example “Unity of legal personality,” was abolished, it said that wife and husband were one (the husband) and the married woman could not enter into contracts nor sue or be sued. Married women had no right to custody of their children (though they often got them by default), and they were basically duty-bound to give the husband sexual and domestic services and he was protected against loss of his wife’s services. Of course the right to vote was important but these additional rights in family relation were a significant change. While the set of new laws itself was presented in 1985, in real life the struggle for equality is still ongoing. And the battle for the end of discrimination and equality under the same law will definitely last some more decades.

Third Beach, Lost Lagoon, and Beaver Lake are all popular attractions located inside the park. For first time visitors, Stanley Park is a great way to experience many of the sights and sound of Vancouver in one day. Brunswick Point – Delta Brunswick Point is located in the suburb of Delta just a short drive south of Vancouver. Here lies a relatively flat trail that stretches 8 kilometres across a Fraser River dike. Views of the serene local farmland are available on one side of the trail, while views of the calm marshy shoreline are available on the other. A large metal gate separating industrial roads and train tracks from the walkway mark the end of the trail. From here, hikers must turn around and head back on the same beautiful trail. This trail is dog friendly and takes approximately one hour to complete. This trail is a must see for people with an affinity for bird watching as it very close to Westham Island, a Reifel Bird Sanctuary. Westham Island is home to dozens of coastal bird species which tend to frequently pass by Brunswick Point making for some rare photo opportunities. Pacific Spirit Regional Park – Vancouver A large network of hiking trails can be found at the Pacific Spirit Regional Park which is located inside the University Endowment Lands on the west side of Vancouver. Hikers should pre-plan their route as this park stretches across 750 hectares of untouched forest. Most of the trails here are dog friendly and some even allow horse access. Trails here can take anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours to complete depending on which route is taken. Grouse Grind – North Vancouver The Grouse Grind is the hardest and steepest trail on the list and should only be attempted by hikers who are confident in their personal fitness level. This trail snakes its way up the side of Grouse Mountain, a local ski-hill during the wintertime. Hundreds of local Vancouverites challenge themselves every day by racing up the mountain for the best time. Typically, the Grouse Grind can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2. 5 hours to complete depending on how hard hikers wish to challenge themselves. Atop the trail lies Grouse Mountain’s lodge which features a fully licensed restaurant to cool exhausted hikers off. To get back down, you must take the gondola for a minimal fee. Burnaby Lake – Burnaby Burnaby Lake holds the title for the Lower Mainland’s largest lake and is only a short drive from Vancouver. The trail surrounding the perimeter of the lake is very flat and takes roughly two hours to complete. Although there isn’t much shade, the tranquil lake itself is almost always viewable which makes the trip well worth it. Burnaby Lake is also connected to the SkyTrain (Millennium Line), Vancouver’s light rail system, giving tourists from Vancouver easy access to a great half day trip.

Chefs recommend that young animals should be used for the second method and as for the first method; any animal will be just perfect for a tasty dinner. This article will try to provide full instructions of how to prepare a squirrel stew for you and your family. In order to prepare a squirrel stew you will need the following items: 2 squirrels, cleaned and cut into small pieces; Dutch oven with lid 2 tablespoons of oil; 4 potatoes, cut into chunks; 4 sliced carrots; 1 large chopped onion; 1 clove garlic, minced; 1 tablespoon of Italian herbs; Salt & pepper (if you desire); Water. Keep on reading the 5 steps to find out more. Step 1 – The first thing you must do is to heat the oil in the bottom of a Dutch oven and rapidly brown the squirrel pieces on all sides; Step 2 – Next thing to do is to cover the squirrel pieces with water and allow to slow boil for approximately two hours. After that, remove the squirrel pieces from the pot and set them aside in order to cool down; Step 3 – Add herbs and vegetables to the pan so that the meat will be more tasteful, make sure you won’t overdo as you will ruin the taste. The next thing you must accomplish is to turn the heat down in order to simmer. Step 4 – As soon as the squirrel pieces are cool enough to touch with your hands, remove the meat from the bones. Take the meat and put it back in the pot and throw away the bones as you won’t need them anymore. Add water to suit your tastes. Step 5 – The stew must be simmered for another 1-2 hours, depending on the squirrel meat. If you like, you could add a tablespoon of cornstarch so that the gray will thicken. After that, you are done. Enjoy! The above squirrel stew recipe is even more delicious when it is served with biscuits or homemade bread. Of course, there are more squirrel stew recipes, this is only an example. Other worth considering examples would be: Southern Squirrel Stew; Fairfield Stew; La Cajun’s Squirrel Stew; South Georgia Squirrel Stew; Runnin’ Bear Saloon Squirrel Stew; Virginia & North Carolina Brunswick Stew; Real Brunswick Stew; Road Kill Stew; Camp Stew; Daddy’s Squirrel Stew; Flatwoods Squirrel Stew; Brunswick Stew. As you can see, there are many cooking options as far as the squirrel meat is concerned and maybe that is why this meat is gaining more and more fans. Luckily, the Internet has plenty of squirrel recipes to offer at a very reasonable price so make sure you Google one of these recipes or better yet, purchase a squirrel recipe book in which you will find dozens of ways to prepare this tasty meat.

Marine engineering, a branch of Engineering, is concerned with the dealing of nautical architecture and science. The meaning of ‘Marine Engineering’ is defined as a research conducted in oceans and coastal or inland waters connected to the sea. Its courses involve construction and maintenance of ships and other sailing vessels. The Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture are three professions that are interrelated. Naval Architects come under the category of people who deal with basic ship design, starting with hull forms and overall arrangements, power requirements, structure and stability. Determining the ocean environment’s effects on ships and other marine vehicles and structures, is the job of ocean engineers. They are also responsible for designing and operating stationary ocean platforms, or manned or remote-operated sub-surface vehicles used for deep sea exploration. There are many Career Options in Engineering. Marine Engineers are responsible for managing the technical department of the ships. Their work is primarily based on selecting the ships’ machinery, which may include diesel engines, steam turbines, gas turbines, etc. , and for the design of mechanical, electrical, fluid and control systems throughout the vessel. They come under the crew of a ship that are responsible for managing a team of marine technicians and craftspeople. The main obligation of a marine engineer are the construction, operations and maintenance of the engine room. As a result, the marine engineer has to handle all technical aspects of the ship. Undoubtedly, they manage the engine and its crew, and ensure the safety and standards of the marine body.
